The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust

The Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust received a one-year HLF Catalyst grant for building organisational capacity for fundraising and eventually increasing the Trust’s financial resilience.

The grant is coming to an end in June 2014 and was used to further enhance the skills of current staff with relevant training to ensure a well-managed approach to fundraising in the future. It was also used to add additional part time admin and finance capacity, as well as to add a short term expert on corporate fundraising. Thanks to the resources provided by the grant HWDT now has a 3-year strategic plan and a fundraising strategy, have participated in training offered by the Institute of Fundraising, redesigned its membership scheme and launched new strategies to approach corporations.

It is expected that the resulting step-change in the organisation’s fundraising capacity will enable HWDT to build upon its project work, eventually recruit new members of staff and, as a result, make a difference to marine natural heritage and the people of the local communities in which they work.
