Training & Events

Resourcing Scotland’s Heritage is delivering a series of training courses and events across Scotland. The venues for each of the events will be based on demand for the courses and travel bursaries are available to support your attendance.

Are you ready to take part in a Resourcing Scotland’s Heritage training course? Our training is best suited to registered charities and constituted community groups.  Take a walk through our simple question and answer page to determine which course is right for you.  For further information on setting up a charity in Scotland please see the OSCR website.

We have two main training courses and a series of ‘In Focus’ events.  For further information on the courses please read our full course descriptions for  ‘Fundraising: Make it Happen’, ‘Fundraising: Planning to Progress’ and the ‘In Focus’ sessions.

If you are interested in any particular event or fundraising topic please do get in touch – we may be able to bring an event to your area info@scotheritage.org.

Please register for the events you would like to attend below.  We ask that no more than two representatives from each organisation attend an event.  Please note a nominal attendance fee is charged for each of the events.

A General Tax Guide for Arts and Heritage Organisations (Edinburgh)

February 21, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm

This half-day seminar is a must for all financial or budget holding staff and anyone who wants to know how tax affects (and can benefit) arts and heritage organisations with charitable status in Scotland.

The accompanying general tax guide provides a practical summary and guidance on how tax affects the arts and heritage organisations.  The event and guide are a great refresher and reference for those who need reminding of basic principles and want to know how different taxes interact with each other.

The event covers:

  • Corporate Tax
  • VAT
  • Gift aid
  • Basic rules, common issues and opportunities.

The event will look at the tax status of income, box office arrangements, room hires, trading activities, memberships, grants and donations and sponsorship.  It will highlight tax savings that can be available and the issues and opportunities that frequently affect arts and heritage organisations. It will be based on current rules and procedures and highlight common errors and dispel common tax myths.

“It was all very informative and helpful in giving me a better understanding of tax. The trainers were excellent.”
Fiona Greer, Scottish Maritime Museum

“If you are running or about to run a regular giving or membership scheme, or corporate sponsorship – then this event is very useful.”
Zuleika Brett, V&A Museum of Design Dundee
